Welcome to your November update for the 2027 EGU General Assembly, which will take place on-site in Vienna, Austria, and virtually, from 4 to 9 April 2027. To keep you up to date, we will send you important EGU27 information in our “EGU27 updates” at least once per month, at the beginning of the month. You will still receive direct emails when tasks have a specific deadline, so please check your email settings to ensure that you do not miss anything.
More information about the planned format and additional features of the EGU27 General Assembly will be available soon. For now, here is the important information you need for November.
So, what do you need to do in November?
For conveners
- The call for abstracts is open, so it is time to advertise your session. The abstract submission deadline is 12 January 2027, 13:00 CET.
- If you would like to have a solicited speaker in your session, please check the conditions that apply before approaching them.
- Remember that authors can apply for financial support. Abstracts submitted with a support application will be available for assessment by conveners on 2 December 2026. Conveners are requested to rate these abstracts by 11 December 2026.
- If you are a convener of a Geo Panel (GP) session, it is time to prepare your panel (speakers, questions to be addressed, and timing) and start inviting your solicited speakers. Please read the Geo Panel guidelines.
- Have a question about being a session convener, running a Geo Panel (GP) (formerly a Union Symposium or Great Debate), or holding a short course (SC)? Find the answers on the EGU27 website. You can also find out about inter- and transdisciplinary sessions (ITS) and the new programme group, Geoscience & Society (GS).
- For EGU27, our volunteer Council voted not to increase any of the costs to attend the General Assembly, so the mandatory abstract processing charges (APCs), the rates for the various registration options, and EGU membership fees remain the same as in 2026 and 2025. Information about all registration rates will be available in November.
- Need a letter of invitation for a visa application? Find out how we can help with your application, what assistance we cannot provide, and how to request your letter of invitation.
- GeoCinema is back. Submit your short film by 30 November 2026.
- Add the important EGU27 dates to your calendar by checking our deadlines and milestones page.
- Curious about who contributes to the organization of the EGU27 General Assembly? Meet the EGU Programme Committee.
For authors
- Submit your regular abstract to the session of your choice by 12 January 2027, 13:00 CET.
- Looking for the education and outreach sessions (EOS)? They have moved to the new programme group, Geoscience & Society (GS). The exception to the one-abstract rule continues to apply: you may submit a second regular abstract to a GS-led session. The maximum number of abstracts, including solicited abstracts, remains two.
- Apply for financial support by submitting your abstract by 1 December 2026, 13:00 CET.
- The first EGU27 regional hub is being trialled in Perth, Western Australia, for the 2027 General Assembly. Find out how it will work and whether it is right for you on the regional hub page.
- If you have been invited as a solicited speaker, you can obtain a transaction number (TAN) from that session's convener, if you plan to submit a regular abstract to another session in addition to your solicited abstract.
- Looking for tips on how to submit your abstract? Find abstract submission instructions on the EGU27 website.
