At the EGU General Assembly, GS will provide a home for EGU members who primarily research the relationship between geoscience and society. Its scope is any and all curiosity-driven inquiry into society’s relationship with geoscience (e.g. policy, science history and philosophy, ethics, citizen science, influence on culture, impacts) and research to define best practice in education and communication activities. This includes and expands upon the former Education and Outreach Sessions (EOS), where participants can share and reflect on practice in topics related to outreach and education in their broadest sense. GS sessions are open for all to contribute and discuss across disciplines (as convener, author, or attendee).
To encourage participation, all first authors of an abstract to any Programme Group (PG) within the General Assembly are allowed to also submit a second regular abstract to a GS-led session.
Submitting a session to the GS Programme Group
Submission of session proposals to the GS Programme Group is possible during the public call-for-session (see deadlines and milestones table). GS topics vary each year, but the first 'bottom-up' section is an explicit call in our first year to help us shape the structure going forwards – submit here if you do not see an sub-division for your idea:

The GS programme is run by of the Geoscience and Society Division, but includes links to EGU's Outreach Committee and EGU's Education Committee, through Science Officers of the programme.
The Education Committee's GIFT (Geoscience Information for Teachers) programme is also part of the GS programme.
